    PCOS and Pelvic Health Coaching

If you are dealing with PCOS or pelvic health issues, it can feel like your body is working against you.

You might be struggling with weight gain that does not respond the way it used to. You might feel constantly tired, deal with strong cravings, or find it hard to stay consistent because your energy and motivation fluctuate. For others, it is pelvic discomfort, weakness, or a lack of confidence when it comes to movement and training.

A lot of women are told to lose weight or exercise more, but without any real structure or understanding of what is actually going on.

As a personal trainer in Cardiff, I work with women who want a clearer, more supportive approach. This is about building a plan that takes into account how your body responds, how your energy changes, and what you can realistically stick to.

The aim is to help you feel more in control again, not just of your training, but of your health.

Understanding PCOS and Why It Feels So Difficult

PCOS is not just about one symptom. It can affect hormones, insulin sensitivity, energy levels, appetite, and how your body stores fat.

One of the biggest challenges is how your body handles energy. Many women with PCOS have reduced insulin sensitivity, which can make it easier to store fat and harder to lose it. This can also lead to stronger cravings and energy dips, especially after meals.

This is why standard advice like “eat less and move more” often does not work as expected. Without the right structure, it can feel like you are putting in effort without seeing results.

This is also where frustration builds. You are not doing nothing. You are just not being given a plan that actually fits how your body works.

Pelvic Health and Confidence With Movement

Pelvic health is another area that is often ignored, but it can have a big impact on how you feel during training and everyday life.

You may experience weakness, discomfort, or a lack of control, especially after pregnancy or long periods of inactivity. This can make certain exercises feel uncomfortable or even embarrassing, which leads many women to avoid training altogether.

The problem is that avoiding movement can make things worse over time.

The focus here is on building strength and control in a way that feels safe and manageable. This helps improve confidence, reduces discomfort, and allows you to move more freely without second guessing yourself.

How Training Can Help With PCOS and Pelvic Health

Training can play a key role in improving both PCOS related symptoms and pelvic health.

Strength training helps improve how your body uses energy. It supports muscle development, which plays a role in improving insulin sensitivity and helping your body manage blood sugar more effectively. Over time, this can help with fat loss, energy levels, and appetite control.

Regular movement also helps reduce long periods of inactivity, which can make symptoms worse. Even small increases in daily activity can have a positive impact.

For pelvic health, training focuses on building strength, control, and stability. This is not just about isolated exercises, but about improving how your whole body moves and supports itself.

The aim is to create a plan that works with your body rather than fighting against it.

How Nutrition Supports PCOS and Hormonal Balance

Nutrition is a key part of managing PCOS, but it does not need to be extreme.

The focus is on building a structure that helps manage energy levels and reduce large spikes and crashes. This often includes balancing meals, improving food quality, and creating consistency rather than jumping between strict diets and complete flexibility.

For many women, the biggest improvement comes from reducing the cycle of restriction and overeating. When your food is more structured, your energy becomes more stable, and your cravings become easier to manage.

The goal is to create an approach that supports your training, your energy, and your long term health without making food another source of stress.

    Who This Is For

This approach is for women who feel like their body is not responding the way they expect.

It may be that you have been diagnosed with PCOS and are struggling to manage your weight or energy. It could also be that you are dealing with pelvic health issues and feel unsure about what is safe or effective when it comes to training.

It is also suitable if you feel stuck in a cycle of trying different approaches without seeing consistent results.

You do not need to have everything figured out before starting. The focus is on building a plan that works for you and helps you move forward with more confidence.

    Other Specialist Coaching Options

Depending on your situation, there may be other areas that can support you alongside this.

Women’s health coaching provides a broader approach to training and lifestyle. Menopause strength and fitness focuses on hormonal changes later in life, while pregnancy and post pregnancy coaching supports you through and after that stage.

You can explore these options through the specialist coaching page to find what suits you best.

I moved to cardiff for work and wanted to find someone who could help me lose a few pounds. A few people in our office recommended toby and i must say he has been great. lost close to 2 stone with him when i couldn't lose weight before. What I love about working with toby is he does outdoor and indoor training and as i live down cardiff bay there are plenty of places to work out. I've done running workouts going through mermaid quay, past the sennedd and back to my house near ocean way, which i never thought i could have done last year. We've also done workouts indoors when the weather isnt as nice. The workouts are varied, i do weights, cardio, intervals and everything else in between. As for Toby hes great, makes me laugh, makes me determined and puts me through my paces. i've been with Toby for a few months now and he's brilliant. Thanks Tob.

Training with Toby has been great! I never expected to enjoy gymming this much. I’m a musician (violinist) so have to be a bit careful with my upper body, and Toby has tailored my training accordingly. I’ve visibly lost weight and built muscle over the last 6 months with very little soreness, and even when I’m travelling (which I do a lot for work) Toby sends me detailed, thought-out sessions so that I can maintain consistency. He’s both flexible and v much on it, and I’d happily recommend him as a PT!

I’ve been training with Toby for 6 months. The reason for doing so wasn’t really to lose significant weight but was to increase my overall fitness and overall technique. I really like his attention detail helping you master every rep. The workouts are really varied and I’ve learnt loads. Thank you Toby for all that you’ve done! 👏🏻

I teamed up with Toby in September last year having moved to the city to build my overall fitness and strength as well as getting more in shape. The journey we’ve been on has been superb and the results I’ve achieved with Toby have been better than expected. Toby is a great personal trainer. He’s really supportive and motivational and regularly keeps in touch in between sessions to see how things are post sessions. His sessions are well thought through and made sure I was getting the best out of them and making the right progress in the right areas. I would highly recommend Toby and a huge thank you Toby for the journey we went on

Toby is a great personal trainer, and a really nice guy who is calm in his approach but there when you need that extra push. With access to a private studio there is no need to feel intimidated by the idea of the gym, but Toby will help build that confidence so you can go into the gym on your own. We’ve done a variety of session indoors and outdoor including runs training for a race! Would recommend Toby to all.

I started trading with Toby in April 23 with the goal of building muscle and losing body fat ready for a 6 week holiday in September 23. Not only did i achieve those 2 goals I was also able to develop my understanding of training with his guidance and also to become an overall fitter, stronger and more mobile version of myself. Toby is super flexible with training and is always available to answer questions I had on training and also on nutrition. Not only did I get pushed to my limits training with Toby I was also able to see the results from the knowledge he was able to give me.

Toby is always willing to be flexible and go above and beyond to help you reach your goals. I was trying to improve overall fitness while also trying to lose weight for my wedding. We achieved both because Toby was willing to shift things around in the weeks running up to the wedding to ensure I always managed to train. But he also did things like ran Cardiff 10k with me one Sunday just to make sure I did the best I could. He is a great guy and he really knows how to get results. While the wedding has past, I will continue to work with Toby because I am so happy with my improvements.

I would highly recommend Toby as a personal trainer. I started my training programme with him 2-3 sessions per week 11 months ago. Initially I planned to do a 12 week programme but I made so much progress and enjoyed the sessions so much I continued the programme. Toby is a very knowledgeable and experienced personal trainer. His training sessions have great variety and combine cardiovascular with strength and conditioning work. He is very professional and brings a great energy and positivity to the sessions. I made incredible progress and he really helped me achieve my goals and look my best for my wedding. I would highly recommend him as a personal trainer.

I contacted Toby during the first lockdown, shortly after learning that I was expecting my first child. I was nervous and completely unsure of what to expect. I knew that I wanted to be in the best possible place physically. He worked closely with me and specifically focused my sessions for all stages of prenatal training. I made fantastic results and couldn't thank him enough for preparing me physically, this in turn made me mentally stronger and helped me deliver my beautiful son. We arranged to continue with my postnatal development 8 weeks later. He was caring and listened to how I was feeling and structured the sessions accordingly. At first we were working pelvic floor exercises, posture exercises and just getting my body back to a place where I could start to really train properly. I'm now looking better and feeling fitter than I ever have before and we've just booked in to the Cardiff 10k in the summer. If your looking for one to one training, I couldn't recommend Toby enough. He is knowledgeable and approachable

    FAQS

Can exercise actually help with PCOS symptoms?

Yes. Regular exercise, especially strength training, can help improve insulin sensitivity, which plays a key role in PCOS. This can support better energy levels, improved fat loss, and more stable appetite. The key is consistency and having a plan that you can stick to.

Why do I find it harder to lose weight with PCOS?

Many women with PCOS have reduced insulin sensitivity, which affects how the body stores and uses energy. This can make fat loss slower and more frustrating without the right approach. A structured plan that includes strength training and consistent nutrition can help improve this over time.

Do I need to cut out carbs completely?

No. Completely removing carbs is not usually necessary. The focus is on managing them better, improving food quality, and creating balanced meals that support stable energy levels.

Can training help with pelvic floor issues?

Yes, but it needs to be approached correctly. Training can help improve strength and control, which supports pelvic health. If you have more serious symptoms, it is always recommended to speak to a doctor or pelvic health specialist first.

What if I feel embarrassed or unsure about training?

This is very common. Many women avoid training because they are unsure what is safe or feel uncomfortable. The aim here is to build confidence gradually, starting with what feels manageable and progressing from there.

Should I speak to a doctor before starting?

If you have been diagnosed with PCOS, have ongoing pelvic pain, or are unsure about your symptoms, it is always a good idea to speak to a healthcare professional first. This ensures you understand your condition properly and can train safely alongside any medical advice.
